For crime reporters it may be a useful resource. For local Prince George’s County residents it may be a shocking reminder of a recent tragedy or a frightening reality check of homicide trends.

For the past several months, I’ve been following a blog called Gory Prince George’s. It appears the site was started by Diane C. Russell, who is listed as a “local political watchdog” on her LinkedIn profile.

Gory Prince George’s is a collection of reports and news articles dealing with or relating to homicides throughout Prince George’s County. But apart from simply posting article links when a new homicide is reported, the site offers annual statistic counters to see how this year’s murder rate compares to other years. In addition, homicides are categorized and a large part of the site features those who have died as a homicide victim.

Most recently, an unidentified man was shot and killed in Bladensburg. Here’s the Gazette article on the case. This site lists this incident at the top of the page and offers as much primary information about the incident as possible. For example, the post notes that this is the third homicide that Bladensburg has seen in 2011.

If you’re interested in this sort of thing or just want to know something about a homicide case in Prince George’s, check out Gory Prince George’s. It’s been fairly useful for me and I appreciate the development and upkeep the creator puts in.
