The importance of saying “thank you”

It seems very simple. When someone does something nice for you, you reply with a “thanks!” Not a very complex idea.

But often times, people become so overwhelmed or wrapped up in what they are involved with that they may forget about the importance of thanking those who make a positive impact on their life.

Take a college graduation for example. If a family member makes the trip to see you walk across that stage in a sea of college graduates, they deserve some recognition. If a family member or friend hands you a card to say congratulations; no matter how much the check inside is for, they too deserve a big thanks.

Even small actions like returning a phone call or email. The simple act of response is a positive gesture and deserves a quick “thank you.” Thanking an individual not only validates their actions and allows them to feel that they’ve done the right thing, it allows them to see that you care about others and not just yourself.

I’m not sure why I chose to write about the importance of saying “thanks” today. I suppose it is because I have found myself in many of these examples lately due to my own college graduation. No matter what the situation, if a person is impacting your life in a positive way, take the time to say “thank you.”
