Katie Couric replacement Scott Pelley to speak at Towson University commencement
It was officially announced Tuesday, May 3, that 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley will become the new lead anchor of ‘CBS Evening News.’ Pelley will replace Katie Couric, who has anchored the program since 2006. She announced her departure from the program in April.
Prior to Pelley taking the new gig, it was announced that he will be speaking at Towson University’s spring commencement ceremony for the College of Fine Arts and Communication. He will be introduced by TU alumnus Bill Owens, the 60 Minutes executive editor.
I reported this bit of information first for The Towerlight in the beginning of April. At the time, Pelley was solely a 60 Minutes correspondent, but little did i know that he would soon be stepping into a massive public stage as the new Evening News anchor.
As a graduating student in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, I’m excited to hear what Pelley has to say to these graduates and these future journalists.
Towson University’s COFAC graduation ceremony will take place Friday, May 25 at 2 p.m. Pelley’s first show as the new anchor will be June 6.
